Panopto content retension policy

Regarding the storage of Panopto videos, the following principles have been established by the decision of the study committee of September 12, 2024:

  • Panopto archives videos that have not been watched in the last 13 months.
  • Users logged in to Panopto (including learners) can restore archived videos from the archive to watch them. Recovery takes place within 48 hours at most.
  • Since the university has plenty of storage capacity for videos in the archive, there will be no need to delete videos from the archive in the coming years.

The purpose of video archiving is to move older recordings to a slower disk space to save resources and ensure more optimal operation of the video management system.

Videos are archived automatically, and video owners are not notified by e-mail about archiving.

If you are logged in to Panopto and open your videos folder, you can see which videos in this folder are visible and which are archived by clicking on the icons at the top of the page.

If you have video creator rights, you can archive the video at any time using the Archive command in the Manage tab of the video settings.

Archived videos have a Restore from Archive button that you can click to restore the video from the archive.

The time to restore the video from the archive depends on the number of processes currently running in Panopto, and the restorer will be notified of how long the restoration may take. The restoration takes place within a maximum of 48 hours, and if the restoration has taken place, the owner of the video will receive a notification about it in an e-mail.
