Empowering Social Sciences Educators on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom

The first piloting session took place at the University of Tartu

The University of Tartu (Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies) hosted an internal training session on April 29, titled “Integrating AI in Assignments: Discussion of Practical Case Studies” as part of the piloting activities for the EmpowerAI project. The event brought together 19 participants from across the university who explored how artificial intelligence can be meaningfully integrated into assessment in the field of social sciences and humanities.

The training introduced participants to the EmpowerAI Guide and a set of practical case studies demonstrating the application of AI tools in academic assignments. The session was structured using the jigsaw method, encouraging active peer learning and discussion. Each group focused on a specific case study, prepared a short poster presentation, and then shared insights with the wider group.

The collaborative format sparked lively discussions on the opportunities and challenges of using AI in university teaching, and provided valuable feedback for the ongoing development of the EmpowerAI resources.
