Empowering Social Sciences Educators on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom

Advantages

For Teachers:

  • Time efficiency and input quality; the biggest advantage for me was effective time usage. Without AI, text generation for the events was quite time-consuming, often limiting content to short press releases. However, using AI tools, it became possible to create more nuanced texts that provided detailed information and solid background. This saved significant time, allowing me to deliver more informative and extensive input to students, enhancing the overall learning experience.

For Teachers and Students:

  • Enhanced realism: AI-generated content deepened students’ immersion by simulating realistic threat perceptions and scenarios. AI’s ability to produce texts in various styles and genres creates a more realistic perspective of events. Furthermore, the abundance of information, including frequently contradictory messages and different perspectives on ongoing events, enhances the simulation’s authenticity. AI facilitates the generation of such diverse and complex content, providing participants with a richer and more engaging crisis management experience.
  • Adjustability: AI’s ability to create text representing different biases or perspectives, along with specific tonalities, is particularly valuable in delivering nuanced messages. This is especially important in contexts like diplomacy, where tone and content must align with strategic goals. Additionally, AI’s capacity to adjust scenarios based on participants’ reactions enhances the quality of communication. For example, it is possible to escalate a situation if participants remain passive, prompting them to take action, or to de-escalate if the situation becomes too intense. This adaptability allows for a more responsive and realistic simulation experience.
