Types of logos

The university’s primary logo consists of an image of the portico of the university’s main building, with the year 1632 beneath it and the words “TARTU ÜLIKOOL” to its right. The primary logo also exists in English and Latin. Use the primary logo only in one language at a time.

The primary logo is the preferred type of logo. It may be used
• in signature blue on a white background,
• in white on the primary colours,
• on a photo.


The university’s stacked logo consists of an image of the portico of the university’s main building, with the year 1632 beneath it and the words “TARTU ÜLIKOOL” to its right in two rows. The stacked logo also exists in English and Latin. Use the logo only in one language at a time.

The stacked logo is preferred when space is limited or when using the primary logo is not possible or reasonable (e.g., when presented alongside partners’ or university units’ logos). It may be used

  • in signature blue on a white background,
  • in white on the primary colours,
  • on a photo.


The university’s circular logo consists of an image of the portico of the university’s main building, with the year 1632 beneath it and the words “TARTU ÜLIKOOL” written in a circle around it in two languages:
• Estonian and English,
• Estonian and Latin, or
• English and Latin.

The circular logo may be used
• in signature blue on a white background,
• in white on the primary colours,
• on a photo.

The circular logo must not be used on the same surface with the primary or stacked logo.



The university’s logo submark consists of an image of the portico of the university’s main building, with the year 1632 beneath it.

The logo submark is used when using the primary, stacked or circular logo is not possible or reasonable (e.g. on the university ring, emblem, website icon).

The logo submark must not be used next to the logo.

The year may be omitted from the logo submark only if it is technically impossible to include it (for example, when milling metal). Such use must be coordinated with the marketing committee.

The logo submark may be used
• in signature blue on a white background,
• in white on the primary colours,
• on a photo,
• when working with or engraving metal, wood, or other special materials.
