Rectangle and base grid
Rectangle
Besides the logos, one of the most important design elements of the University of Tartu is the rectangle that is either straight (at a 0-degree angle) or at a 15-degree angle. The rectangle extends beyond the design area, but the visible corner must lie on the base grid.
There may be more than one rectangle on a surface. The rectangle may be either a solid colour or a cropped photo. There may be elements at 0-, 15- and –15-degree angles on the same surface.
Base grid
The base grid can be adapted for both print and screen formats. It is a grid of squares, with the height of each square 16 times smaller than the shorter side of the designed surface.
The base grid can be created for any aspect ratio. The squares do not have to fit perfectly along the longer side.
For printed materials, the base grid must be aligned with the upper edge. For online materials (e.g. banners), the base grid must start from the centre of the surface.
