Week 7: Interculturalism, intercultural communication, culture
The main idea of week 7 is to show you that language and culture are intrinsically linked. Sometimes problems and misunderstandings in intercultural communication may arise if people are not aware of differences between cultures in communicative or social behavior. Therefore in this week you will find out how language barriers may affect cross-cultural communication, how politeness strategies can differ between cultures, and how stereotypes and prejudices may emerge. We will also look at possible strategies for developing intercultural competence. Enjoy the journey!
