Northern-Russian ornamental knitting

Title of the workshop: “Basic methods of Northern-Russian ornamental knitting”

In this workshop you will learn 2 kinds of traditional cast-on methods of ornamental mittens, and how to knit patterns with 2 or 3 threads. There will be a brief presentation “The history of Northern ornamental knitting and its peculiarities” as well. Threads will be provided by teacher.

Teacher Vera Maksimovskaya (b. 1983) is from Arkhangelsk and also lives there. She works as a pedagogue of extracurricular education in Folkcrafts school for children. She is the head of the workshop “Northern ornamental knitting” since 2010 and teaches children aged 8-18.

Vera is a craftswoman of Arkhangelsk region, she has been specialised on ornamental knitting and is good at traditional techniques of Northern knitting. She has taken part from regional, Russian and international exhibitions in Arkhangelsk, Vologda, St.Petersburg  and Moscow.  In February, 2017 Vera took part from the seminar “Wool in the north” in Norway.   For 10 years she has conducted remote courses in ornamental knitting within the project “Remote training in Russian Northern folk crafts” (remeslodo.ru), where people from different parts of Russia are taught.
