Empowering Social Sciences Educators on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom

Empower AI Consortium Partners

The EmpowerAI network brings together four forward-looking and innovative-minded universities in the Nordic-Baltic region: the University of Tartu, Kaunas University of Technology, the University of Turku, and Tampere University. The aim of this collaboration is twofold: 1) to co-design and pilot training materials for teaching staff in the field of social sciences and arts, empowering them to confidently use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the classroom environment, and 2) to collect best practices regarding the use of AI in social sciences and arts within the Nordic-Baltic region. Subsequently, the network will produce recommendations for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on the responsible use of AI in the learning environment.

The network responds to the imperative for social sciences and arts departments to equip their teaching staff with the necessary digital skills to integrate AI into the classroom, ensuring the responsible and ethical use of such tools in the teaching and learning processes.

To achieve these objectives, the network members will engage in a multi-step process:

  • co-designing training materials on the use of AI in teaching social sciences and arts (WP2)
  • piloting the training materials on teaching staff at the local level (WP3)
  • collecting best practices and feedback derived from the training, subsequently preparing an assessment report of the training with recommendations for higher education institutions in the Nordic-Baltic region (WP4).

The tangible outcomes of this collaborative effort will include:

  • training materials on the use of AI in social sciences and arts, encompassing slides, a training syllabus, and practical activities.
  • an assessment report with recommendations for HEIs on the use of AI in social sciences and arts within the Nordic-Baltic region. This report will compile feedback and data based on the piloted trainings, offering recommendations and case studies of best practices.
  • dissemination of project activities and results on social media to enhance awareness of the training materials and assessment report.
