This hands-on course aimed to equip researchers with a core set of techniques for phage work (see the course schedule). The course is designed for participants at all levels – from Bachelor students to PIs, see the participants list below. The protocols used in the course are adapted from the in-house protocols used in the lab of Alexander Harms (University of Basel, Biozentrum). After the successful first run in Tartu, hosted by the Tenson lab, the course is to be rolled out in Lund (hosted by the labs of Vasili Hauryliuk and Gemma Atkinson) and Belgium (hosted by the labs of Abel Garcia-Pino and Gipsi Lima-Mendez).
The wet lab part of the course is to be followed by the bioinformatics course for phage genome annotation. This latter part is to be run on Zoom by Gipsi Lima-Mendez (Université de Namur, Belgium) and Gemma C. Atkinson (University of Lund, Sweden).
Organisers of the practical part of the course: Toomas Mets, Tetiana Brodiazhenko and Tanel Tenson (University of Tartu, TUIT), Vasili Hauryliuk (University of Lund, Sweden, and University of Tartu, TUIT), Abel Garcia-Pino (Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) and Alexander Harms (University of Basel, Biozentrum).
