C4. Methods for designing and synthesizing new chemical probes
New methods for designing chemical probes are needed in the current era of expanding large scale data sets (24–26). The designed compounds have to be synthesized, a process that usually needs also considerable method development. The current work plan focuses on nucleotide analogues that hold promise for manipulating viral replication and bacterial nucleotide derivative based stress responses (27). Synthesis routes of derivatives of several other classes of bioactive compounds will be developed (secosterols, oxoterahydrofuran, oxindoles, 1,4‐dihydropyridines). New enzymatic, biomimetic, organocatalytic, asymmetric chemical catalytic methods will be developed to design the technologies for the production of the necessary chemicals (28). Activity is led by the Group 6 and assisted by the Group 1.
