Module 3. Waste management actors and policy tools

After completing the module, you will know the main waste management tools and responsibilities of key actors, and will also understand the impact of potential waste management policy problems.

The INTOSAI WGEA guidelines [Ref 6] on auditing waste management introduce a list of policy tools for waste management. These include direct regulations, economic instruments, public information and physical measures. Public awareness has been briefly touched upon in Module 2 of these training materials. In the current Module, internationally set policy goals, national legal and economic instruments of waste management will be focused on.
