Creativity

Creativity is the ability to approach a subject or situation in a creative way and generate new knowledge. Creativity is based on curiosity, resourcefulness and the ability to think outside the box. Creativity is fuelled by fascination about the changing world and openness to new experiences, which encourages the search for knowledge from new sources. A creative person can use existing resources in unexpected ways.

Innovation is the ability to use one’s imagination to combine information, perspectives, or methods in a novel way and thereby create new ideas and solutions. Design thinking methods support creativity and innovation, enabling the development of original and valuable ideas.

A moment of reflection: Do you ever feel tired of doing things the same way all the time? If so, how often do you seek new experiences or methods? Are you familiar with any techniques that can help break out of the routine and give thinking a fresh direction? How often do you surround yourself with people who do not operate in your field and have different interests compared to yours? Do you think of yourself as a curious person? Have you thought about improving yourself in a field unfamiliar to you?

Inspiration to take action

  • Expand your knowledge, explore various sources, show interest in new discoveries and scientific achievements both in your field and in other areas. Creativity arises from good knowledge and curiosity.
  • Try new things, such as going to a different workout class instead of your usual one, reading a book in a genre different from your typical choice, taking a different route home, participating in developing an idea or business project, or getting to know improv theatre, among other things.
  • Do not be afraid to make mistakes. We all make mistakes when trying new things. When it happens, it will help boost your confidence in trying new solutions.
  • Seek feedback on your ideas. Discussions with different people can give you new ideas for the future.
  • Use the Six Thinking Hats method to pinpoint different perspectives and fresh solutions.
  • Brainstorm to come up with a quality idea. The more ideas you can generate in the process, the more likely you are to end up with one good idea to develop further.
