Jaan Pehk

Poems

Jaan Pehk (pseudonym as solo artist Orelipoiss; born 13 June 1975) is a poet and musician.

Pehk was born at Palivere. He has studied at Türi, Räpina School of Horticulture, Georg Ots Tallinn Music College and Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu. Hei is a member of the Tartu Young Authors’ Association and, from 2007, of the Estonian Writers’ Union.

As a poet, he stands out with his funny and witty texts where the central place belongs to language and thought games that sometimes take the form of puns, unexpected rhymes and the absurd. They acquire a special meaning and colouring in the author’s live performance. Pehk has written song lyrics for himself and others; these are remarkable for their idiosyncratic humorous succinctness (e.g., the best-known song of the Koer group Maiu on piimaauto (‘Maiu is a Milk Van’).

Pehk has been a member of several music groups (e.g., Claire’s Birthday, Köök, Koer), translated, played in theatrical productions and films.
