Peep Ehasalu (pseudonym Pärtel Ekman, born 29 October 1966) is a prose writer.
Ehasalu has worked mainly as a teacher of Finnish literature and communication manager. He studied Finnish language and literature at Tallinn University and at the University of Helsinki. From 1996–2001, Ehasalu worked as a lecturer of Finnish literature at Tallinn University. He also studied business in Finland and worked as a communication manager at Viru hotel. From 2018, he has been the communication manager of the Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences in Tallinn. Ehasalu has been a member of the Estonian Writers’ Union from 2016.
Under the name of Pärtel Ekman, he has published the entertainment novels Murtud truudus (‘Broken Fidelity’, 2000) and Unikiri (‘Dream Letter’, 2002), under the name of Peep Ehasalu the novel Hullu munga päevik (‘Crazy Monk’s Diary’, 2014). He has also published the collection of short stories Aeg on selline (‘Time is Such’) and the fairy-tale book Printsid poisid (‘Boys as Princes’, 2013). Together with his son Pärtel, he has written the children’s books Väikeste rüütlite õhtujutt (‘Night Story of Little Knights’, 2006), Kõik kanged mehed (‘All the Tough Men’, 2008) and Ajahädaliste jõulud (‘Christmas Short of Time’, 2012).
The novel published in 2018 under the name of Peep Ehasalu, Roomaja. Romaan armastusest (‘Crawler. A Novel about Love’) is a sad and funny story about a pathetic protest action against the closure of a small-town music school. Violin teacher Mati undertakes the task to protest by crawling through whole Estonia from Haapsalu to Mustvee to attract attention and to raise money for saving the school. On his journey, the man is accompanied by his colleague, elderly piano teacher Hilja. The book was nominated for the annual literature award of the Estonian Cultural Endowment.
