Tuuli Velling (born Tuuli Taul, 18. I 1986) is a singer and poet.
She was born in Pärnu and graduated Pärnu Sütevaka Gymnasium of Humanities in 2005 with high honors. In 2010, she graduated from Georg Ots Tallinn Music College and from 2010-2011, studied at Codarts University for the Arts in the Netherlands. She also has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the Estonian Academy of Arts from 2017.
Tuuli Velling has published two poetry collections: Täiuslik ja turvaline (‘Perfect and Safe’, 2010) and 6 m2 (2013). Her second collection was published together with the album Kuus ruutmeetrit põrandapinda (‘Six Square Meters of Floor’), the limited copies of which were meant for supporters of the release.
In the debut collection Täiuslik ja turvaline, there is love and urban poetry, lyrical and society-critical notes, which are united by the perspective of a young and creative person. Velling’s poetry is melodic and accurate in details. The humor of mild (self-) irony adds to it.
Velling’s poems have been translated to English and Hungarian. She is one of 27 poets whose texts are included in the Estonian volume of the new Baltics poetry anthology Contemporary Estonian Poetry. A Baltic Anthology (University of New Orleans Press, 2013).
