Must has been a lecturer at the Tallinn Pedagogical University and the Estonian Academy of Art. She has been a member of the Estonian Writers’ Union since 2000.
Ann Must has been publishing fiction since 1969. In the short story collections Tuba (‘The Room’, 1980) and Vastu valgust (‘Against the Light’, 1983), through apparently random images of life she has conveyed the inner life of a young woman in a period of personal formation. The stories are different in form and content; some apply a ‘psychologised’, some an external and objective standpoint, some are seen from the author’s, some from a character’s, viewpoint. In the second collection the treatment of subject matter has become more abstract.
Must has also published poetry, essays and criticism. In recent times she has been a freelance writer and translator. She has translated novels and poetry from English.
