Symposium “The Poetry of Jüri Talvet”

On December 12, 2025, a symposium entitled “The Poetry of Jüri Talvet” was held at the Institute of Cultural Studies at the University of Tartu to celebrate the 80th birthday of Professor Emeritus Jüri Talvet.

Jüri Talvet’s diverse activities include literary research, translation, editing, and cultural relations. But above all, Talvet is a poet whose poetry collections have been published over the course of five decades. During the symposium, Talvet’s friends, colleagues, and students gathered to read and interpret the most complex and intimate part of his creative work. Presentations were given by Liina Lukas, Tanar Kirs, Klaarika Kaldjärv, Mari Laan, Arne Merilai, Kirke Rumvolt, Ülar Ploom, Rebekka Lotman, Rein Veidemann, Marta Selma Grünvald, Taimi Paves, Rahel Ariel Kaur, and Jaanus Valk.
