Tallinn Airport

Tallinn Airport offers connections with various countries in Europe. Transport between Tallinn and Tartu takes approximately 2-2.5 hours.

Getting from Tallinn Airport to Tartu:

By bus

There is a direct bus from Tallinn Airport to Tartu. The bus goes at least hourly from 7 am to 11 pm. LuxExpress buses are very comfortable – there’s free WiFi, individual multimedia screens, some buses offer warm drinks, and all of them have a toilet available. Tickets can be bought here: https://www.tpilet.ee/en/. Tickets cost around 10 EUR. They accept electronic tickets. Tartu bus station is less than a 5 minute walk from the VSpa hotel.

NB! Please note that buses are usually quite busy during the weekends/-beginnings, so it is advisable to buy the tickets several days in advance.

Insert ‘Tallinn Airport’ as the departure stop, if you plan to come directly from airport.

Google can help you find a Tallinn-Tartu shuttle bus, if your flight arrives/leaves at night.

By train

Train leaves from Ülemiste train station, which is approx. 1 km from the airport. Train tickets can be bought on the train from the conductor or online (https://elron.ee/en/). Tickets cost around 10 EUR. Second class tickets do not have assigned seats, so getting a seat depends on availability. If you do want to assure yourself a seat, it is advisable to buy a 1st class seat, which costs a couple of euros extra.

Tartu train station is ~2 km from VSpa hotel. You can order a taxi – there are probably some in front of the train station, or order a ride through the Bolt App (information below). Taking a taxi in Tartu is not expensive (usual prices are less than 10 euros for a ride within the city), but be prepared to pay in cash.

NB! Please note that trains are usually quite busy during the weekends/-beginnings, so it is advisable to buy the 1st class ticket a couple of days in advance.

By taxi

This is not advisable for several reasons, but if you have no other option… Some taxis are willing to drive the 200 km, so you have to find the right taxi driver or call a taxi centre. Prices vary (~150-200 EUR). You should either agree on the price before getting on the taxi or they will keep the meter running (you do the math).

Tartu Airport

It is possible to fly to Tartu Airport, which is a tiny airport (maybe even the tiniest in the world) and offers one flight per day to and from Helsinki Airport (operated by Finnair). The flight from Helsinki takes 40 minutes.

Tartu Airport is located approx. 10 km from Tartu city centre. Taxi costs around 15 EUR. You can also download the Bolt App (local Uber), which is usually cheaper than regular taxi, you can pay directly by credit card or by cash, and receive a receipt on your email.
