Learn words and phrases

This section introduces some expressions in Runska, followed by translations into Standard Swedish and English.

  • Moren! Gō moren! – God morgon! Good morning! (usually before 10 or 11 o’clock)
  • Goss frē! – Guds frid! (from 11 until 4 or 5 o’clock)
  • afton! – God kväll! Good evening! (after 5 o’clock in the evening)
  • Gōsinna! – Gud signe! God bless! (a common answer to the greetings above)
  • Gōsinna māt! God signe maten! (a way to greet a person who is eating)
  • Wǟlkome heim! – Välkommen hem! Welcome home! (said when someone is returning home)
  • Tack! – Tack! Thank you!
  • BLiē nu vǟl! (said upon leaving)
  • Gått nit oar! – Gott nytt år! Happy New Year!
  • Gō jul! – God jul! Merry Christmas!
