PlutoF

Create a user account

The PlutoF platform user account is always created for a specific person. No separate data management accounts should be created for institution, organisation, workgroup or project. Instead, person can be linked/associated with an institution, workgroup or project.

Creating a user account consists of two steps:

1) filling in the registration form (https://plutof.ut.ee/#/register) and

2) activating the account via the link sent to the user’s email address.

Upon registration you must fill in the fields: first name, last name, username, email address, (personal) and password.

The correct and fully-owned e-mail address is required for convenient use of the application. E.g. communication with members of the workgroup, status notifications of analyzes and other large-scale operations, announcements by the moderator.

Warning

One person should not have more than one account. Having multiple accounts makes data management more complex in joint projects, and searches become more cumbersome.

It is not allowed to create accounts that are fake, anonymous or created on behalf of another person. Reason for these restrictions: data quality suffers, falsey information also confuses other users. Ambiguous accounts may be deleted without notice.

Persons in the system

The first time a user logs in the system (https://plutof.ut.ee/#/login), a person object is created. This person object will represent the user in the system.

It is important to understand that a user account is always associated with one person. However, a person need not always be associated with a user account. Each user can, if necessary, create an unlimited number of persons to later link their data with.

E.g. situation when, when publishing a research article, there may be several authors / individuals who do not have a PlutoF user account, but whose names must be linked with the data.

Duplicate person

A person named by a user may already be entered by other users (probably colleagues or acquaintances) into the system. Convinced that this person really is meant for you, these two individuals can be linked. Pairing can be done through the “Person” field in “Valid Name”. Pairing allows you to find more information about your person in the future. Similar persons could also be paired with different names of the same person and in case of incorrect spelling. For example, J.Smith would associate John Smith with a valid name.
