Curriculum Development at the University of Tartu

Academic developers and instructional designers

The academic developers and instructional designers working at the Centre for Learning and Teaching can support various stages of curriculum development. Their contact details can be found on the contacts page.

Academic developers

  • Planning curriculum development
Academic developers support programme directors and development teams in planning curriculum development activities and preparing and facilitating development seminars. They help to define development objectives, select appropriate working methods, and establish a clear and effective development framework.
  • Interpreting data, development decisions
Academic developers help interpret statistics, internal evaluation reports and student feedback, and connect these to development decisions. Their support enables the identification of evidence-informed development directions by analysing the existing curriculum.
  • Objective, core and coherence of the curriculum
Academic developers support defining the objective and core of the curriculum, designing the graduate profile, and creating constructive coherence among learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment. If necessary, they can also help plan and facilitate team discussions.

Instructional designers

  • Development of teaching and assessment methods
Working together with faculty-specific academic developers, instructional designers help create learning-centred and outcomes-based courses, supporting teaching staff in selecting teaching and assessment methods and structuring courses.
  • E-courses and digital tools
Instructional designers support the creation and development of e-courses and help identify and implement appropriate digital tools and environments that align with the course’s objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Digital skills and artificial intelligence in teaching and studies
Instructional designers provide guidance on the purposeful integration of digital skills and artificial intelligence into teaching and learning, helping academic staff identify solutions that are both pedagogically sound and appropriate to the discipline.
