The launch event for the Centre for Multilingualism will take place on April 4, 2025, in Tartu. This will involve two parts:

  • The event will kick off with a training workshop on the topic “How to engage the public on multilingualism?”. The workshop will be led by the head of the international Bilingualism Matters network, University of Edinburgh prof. Antonella Sorace and Katarzyna Przybycien. The workshop will include sessions on how to present topics and research results on multilingualism to the public and how to combat myths. This workshop will be held in English and is by invitation. If you are interested in registering, please contact the organisers.
  • Following this, we will hold a panel discussion (in Estonian) on the topic of supporting the home language. Policy makers, researchers, representatives of schools, and parents of schoolchildren will discuss the question of acquisition and teaching of the home language in the light of the current education reforms in Estonia. All are welcome, either in person or via Zoom. Following the panel discussion, the floor will be open for questions from the audience.
