Here are some exercises that you can try out with your students. Before going into them, there are a few principles that you should think through and implement, if possible. First, establish clear procedures and routines with the class. Routines provide security for you and the students. Second, classroom discussion is encouraged, however there should be set rules. They should be simple and limited and created together with the students. The rules of discussion should be presented visibly so that students can revisit them when a reminder is needed. Last, in case of a negative personalised message from one learner to another, the educator or facilitator should react immediately according to the set rules. Only through following common principles in every step, the safe space can be maintained.
