Methodical explanation

Students might be given cards in two colours on which they will write their arguments – arguments for on yellow sticky notes and arguments against on blue sticky notes. After 5-10 minutes, ask everyone to tape their arguments to the flipchart. Subsequently try to organize these arguments on the display: see which arguments are repeated. Read all of them aloud and invite students to discussion. This is a summary exercise. If you feel there is anything else you should discuss with your students, do so now. If you have noticed a problem or a difficult situation in the classroom, try to solve it in a didactically correct way. Do not leave the students alone with this experience. Finally, consider how in one-two sentences you can summarize the most important result of this lesson.

Reflection

Always take into account the size and diversity of the group of students and how they might react to a given topic and what could result from it. Think about how you can effectively work with a given group of students by following this topic in order to achieve the desired results.

We propose in this e-module various teaching methods in this e-module: providing, activating, engaging students in group work, reflective and sensitizing methods connected with the rights to diversity and non-discrimination of every child and adults (methods related to the reflective teaching).

Ethical approach

When striving to achieve the following goals

  • to provide students with basic knowledge about Muslims in Europe
  • to make students aware of how does acculturation work and on what factors does it depend
  • to get beyond the cultural determinism in the way Muslims are presented in the media and schools.

As a teacher remember about: ethical message, not discriminating against any of the participants of the lesson, perhaps agreeing with the students at the beginning about the course of such a lesson (respect for all, the right to speak in a way that does not discriminate against anyone), preparing for a difficult situation or conflict in the classroom and how to solve it and relieve emotions.
