Founded in 2023, the TeamPerMed Center for Personalized Medicine at the University of Tartu and Tartu University Hospital is a key scientific partner to the Estonian government in advancing personalized medicine and transforming healthcare. Our multidisciplinary research and training center integrates expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, data science, clinical medicine, public health, and socio-economic analysis.
In partnership with Erasmus Medical Centre, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the University of Helsinki, and supported by the European Commission and the Republic of Estonia, TeamPerMed aims to develop a scalable framework for translating genomic and health data into personalized medicine tools that can be used in clinical practice to guide prevention and treatment strategies for chronic and hereditary diseases.
TeamPerMed is committed to developing clinical guidelines and decision support tools for healthcare systems in Estonia and the EU. Utilizing extensive databases and electronic health records, we create tools for early health risk identification and prevention. Our goal is to validate at least six personalized medicine tools in the next five years.
During the TeamPerMed project, we will conduct three interdisciplinary pilot research projects to validate our research pipeline:
Validating AI-based risk prediction tools, such as Cardiocalculator, to identify high-risk individuals using health, genomic, lifestyle, and environmental data.
Assessing the effectiveness of early aggressive preventive statin therapy in men and women with high CAD polygenic risk scores.
Evaluating the impact, safety, and effectiveness of pharmacogenetic analysis-guided statin therapy on adults with hypercholesterolemia.
Over the next five years, we will:
