Creative Nature Festival

Welcome to the Arts of Survival Creative Nature Festival, a key event in the programme of European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. Organised by the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden, in collaboration with partners across Estonia, this festival offers a unique blend of nature and creativity from 5 to 15 June. While most events are in Estonian, several are accessible to non-Estonian speakers and people with disabilities, providing sonic, visual, and sensory experiences.

Other Events from the Programme

Located in Tähtvere Park, accessible at all times with a smartphone. 

Starting at the beach of Anne Canal, meeting near the bridge. Explore Tartu’s protected trees. Bring your own or a city bicycle. 

At Tartu Elektriteater, Jakobi 1. Discussion in English about cultural creation in the era of extinction, followed by the documentary “All That Breathes” (2022) at 6:30 PM. 

At University of Tartu Botanical Garden. This free concert blends synthetic and natural sounds. 

At University of Tartu Botanical Garden. Rothenberg, a jazz musician and philosopher, will perform music inspired by nature sounds. 

Located in the community garden Emajõe Aed. 

At the Barge Hall (Tartu Lodjakoda). Featuring musicians and poets inspired by birds, including performances by Ott Lepland, David Rothenberg, and more.

At University of Tartu Botanical Garden. Enjoy workshops, non-alcoholic drinks, and a concerts by Mr. Garfield and setu choir Ilolang. 

Starting at the main gate of Raadi Cemetery, Kalmistu 22. Discover the city at night with ethnologist Hildegard Reimann and zoosemiotic Nelly Mäekivi. 

In Tähtvere Dendropark, F. R. Kreutzwaldi 5. Enjoy a guided walk in Estonian, or simply join to experience the lush park. 

At Tartu Lodjakoda, Ujula 98. A mytopoetical oratory combining natural sounds and contemporary music.
