This unique course opens the door to gender hierarchies and their impact in today’s world. By taking a voyage throughout milestones of gender equality and equity, the participants learn how gender hierarchies in the Eastern Europe have changed and developed in recent centuries. By using personal, local and academic sources, the course also aims to offer an overview of terms and concepts that are used in this field and developments that are necessary to understand gender equality in the modern world. Participants will learn basic terms and concepts of gender studies, they will analyse the connections between society, gender roles and norms. All this knowledge provides educators a solid ground to teach in a way where gender stereotypes and harmful biases are not brought to the classroom.
Objectives:
Structure of the course
The course lasts for 5 weeks. Online session with videos, tasks and reading materials takes approximately 3-5 hours per week and provides basic knowledge on named topics. The course is intended for general education and higher education teachers, who would benefit from knowledge on gender socialization, gender pay gaps, glass mirrors etc. With the knowledge gained, the educators can not only tackle such topics in a classroom but prevent reproducing harmful stereotypes to all genders.
There are mandatory activities and materials every week, as well as additional materials like recommendations of literature, videos and movies for those who are keen on getting further knowledge.
