Research Center of Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean Cultures (CAEMC)

CAEMC is an international research consortium dedicated to academic research and teaching of the history, culture and religions of the Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean civilisations. The Center is based at the University of Tartu (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute of History and Archaeology).

The aim of CAEMC is to study the ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean cultures in symbiosis, paying special attention to comparative research, cultural contacts, mutual influences, and the transfer of knowledge and technologies.

CAEMC conducts and coordinates academic research, organises international conferences, publishes scholarly volumes, and contributes to research-based teaching and supervision at the MA and PhD levels.
