On 8 April, I had the opportunity to speak with the students of Tallinna Reaalkool (Tallinna Reaalkool and Tallinna Inglise Kolledž (@TIK) about privacy — both digital and beyond — and its crucial role in our lives today.
We explored not only the legal framework of privacy within the EU but also its practical meaning: privacy is not just about rules, but about trust. A key takeaway from our discussion was that while some rules may be broken, this doesn’t always lead to punishment — nor should it. Digital systems must not treat every citizen as a suspect by default. Presumption of innocence must remain at the heart of our societies, online and offline.
