New MOOC released by NearEU team in high demand

On February 28, the new MOOC developed within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module “NearEU” – “Impact of Changing EU-Russia Relations on the Development of Eastern Partnership” has started. More than 1150 participants from every corner of the world have registered to attend the five-week course, along with a number of learners from University of Tartu, making this MOOC the most popular e-course ever created at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Such a wide interest proves that there is a global demand for better and informed understanding of Eastern Partnership framework as well as the complexities of EU and Russia’s engagement in the “shared neighborhood”.

The course has been developed by the main coordinators of the NearEU team – Manager of Online Learning Projects – Anna Beitane and Associate Professor of European Studies – Dr. Stefano Braghiroli. The course also includes contributions from academic staff of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies and partnering experts of NearEU Module, based in Poland, Finland and Armenia.

The main aim of the course is to introduce participants to the logic and structure of the Eastern Partnership as well as its evolution in the light of geopolitical developments in the region and changing dynamics of EU-Russia relations.

According to Anna Beitane “this is the second MOOC, which we have created as part of the NearEU Module’s activities. We are very thrilled to see such a high turnout from every corner of the world. Such a high interest proves beyond doubts that our course engages with a topic and issues in high demand and relevant, nowadays, more than ever before”.

According to Dr. Stefano Braghiroli “the course provides an interdisciplinary overview of the main factors, and decision-making patterns, and issues of European and Russian policies in both problem-oriented and region-specific aspects in the timeframe, starting with the initiation of Eastern Partnership and expanding its focus to present day developments”.

The course is going to end of April 3rd, and it is planned to re-open the MOOC again next year in the spring of 2023.
