Specifics and challenges of education

Developments in the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab world over the last fifty years have greatly influenced the availability and quality of education in these countries. The biggest problems in the region are very similar – low salaries for teachers; lack of access to education for children with a migrant background; illiteracy; centralization of public schools; a high proportion of private schools; gender inequalities and education often does not meet the needs of a changing society and the private sector.
