Ivo Müürsepp, member of the E-Sailors team, joined Vikerraadio’s science program Labor to talk about ESTCube-LuNa, the newest satellite developed by Estonian researchers and students. He described the mission’s bold concept – “to hoist full sails and escape away from the Moon” – highlighting the satellite’s experimental propulsion approach. Müürsepp also explained how the team plans to maintain reliable communication with the craft and monitor its exact position throughout its journey.

During the interview, he emphasized the technical challenges of deep-space tracking and the importance of precision in coordinating ground-station operations. The project showcases Estonia’s growing expertise in space technology and offers students hands-on experience with real orbital missions. Müürsepp noted that ESTCube-LuNa will help pave the way for future research into electric-sail propulsion and long-distance spaceflight.
