We are delighted to announce the call for papers for this year's Research Workshop organised by the V-Dem Regional Center for Eastern Europe and Russia in collaboration with the UPTAKE consortium. This year's theme: "Patterns of Autocratization in Eastern Europe and Eurasia".
The workshop will take place in Tartu on Friday, 19th October.
We invite paper proposals (between 300-500 words) on all topics related to autocratization in the post-communist region. Proposals should be sent by May 15 to:

We are happy to announce that we have finalized the program for the Second V-Dem Regional Center for Eastern Europe and Russia Conference in Budapest. The Conference will take place on 9th March in the Central European University in Budapest. More information here.

The Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute at the University of Gothenburg and the Institute of Government and Politics at the University of Tartu signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 25 founding the V-Dem Regional Center for Eastern Europe and Russia at the University of Tartu. The Memorandum was signed by Prof. Staffan Lindberg, Director of the V-Dem Institute, and Prof. Vello Pettai, Head of the new Regional Center, during V-Dem’s annual spring conference in Gothenburg.
“We are delighted to be the first research center to grow out of V-Dem’s network of regional managers around the globe. Our aim will be to promote research on Eastern Europe and Russia using the V-Dem database,” said Prof. Pettai following the signing ceremony.
The new Center will organize an annual October conference on regional V-Dem research. The conferences will be open to all scholars working on V-Dem data and on democratization more broadly in the region. The program for this year’s event is available here.
Currently, V-Dem data for 120 countries is available for on-line graphing via the main V-Dem website.The full V-Dem database will be release on 31 December 2015.
