ABOUT TARTU SEMIOTICS SUMMER SCHOOL<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Tartu Summer School of Semiotics is a series of gatherings<\/strong> that brings together representatives of\u00a0semiotics and related disciplines<\/strong>\u00a0with the aim to provide an\u00a0environment to converse<\/strong>\u00a0about core issues in semiotics that are of disciplinary as well as transdisciplinary relevance. It revives the tradition of K\u00e4\u00e4riku Summer Schools of Semiotics held by Tartu-Moscow School of Semiotics. As its forerunner, the Tartu Summer School of Semiotics is a gathering that aspires to\u00a0promote dialogue<\/strong>\u00a0between scholars and synthesis between approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tartu Summer School of Semiotics 2023\u00a0took place\u00a0August 24-27\u00a0in Tartu. The topic of TSSS 2023\u00a0\u201cComing Soon\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was the future \u2013 semiotics of the future and the future of semiotics. Central questions were: what \u2013 and how \u2013 do we\u00a0know\u00a0and acquire knowledge about the future? In 2021, TSSS was organised in smaller scale due to covid. The event took place\u00a013\u201316 August 2021, Sammuli, Estonia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by Lotman\u2019s idea that\u00a0\u201cconsciousness appears to be carried backwards to the moment which preceded the moment of explosion, retrospectively interpreting all that has occurred\u201d (2009[1992]: 16), the conference looked into the relationship between the past, the present and the future.\u00a0Read more ..<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tartu Summer School of Semiotics 2019 \u2013\u00a0Semiotic dimensions of spaces & literacies\u00a0\u2013\u00a0\u00a0took place\u00a0August 17-19, 2019\u00a0in Tartu. The topic of TSSS 2019\u00a0was inspired by Juri Lotman\u2019s proposition that the primary semiotic dualism lies in the duplication of the world in language and the duplication of the human in space. The discussion was on perception of space and spatial metalanguages \u2013\u00a0how\u00a0models of space facilitate making sense of nature, society and culture as living environments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tartu Summer School of Semiotics 2017 took place\u00a0August 15-18 2017\u00a0in Tartu. The topic of TSSS 2017 was\u00a0\u201cGeneralising Gently<\/strong>\u201d, which addressed the central and problematic nature of generalisations in semiotic and semiosic processes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tartu Summer School of Semiotics 2015 took place in Tartu, August 17-20, 2015. The TSSS 2015 was also hosting the IX Conference of\u00a0Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies<\/a>\u00a0and included\u00a0extended school\u00a0for BA and MA students interested in the semiotic (un)predictability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
