introduction<br>\n<\/h4>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tContact hypothesis (Allport<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\" title=\"\">[1]<\/a><a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a>) constitute an effective theoretical background for creating tools and initiatives aimed at fostering understanding between the antagonized groups. Allport\u2019s contact hypothesis is based on the belief that prejudices are motivated mainly by two factors: ignorance and fear<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\" title=\"\">[3]<\/a>. Therefore, the elimination of these elements should consequently lead to the weakening or elimination of prejudices. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">As an example of a situation that enables the reduction of prejudices, Allport suggests that people expressing prejudices meet with the representatives of the group that is the subject of their prejudice. Confronting ideas with reality should, according to Allport, extinguish or eliminate the erroneous perception of representatives of other social groups. In the course of the research, however, a number of conditions were identified that must be met in order for this method to bring the desired results. The factors necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the method include:<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe distinguished factors necessary to ensure the effectiveness of contact include:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify\">\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:150%\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"line-height:150%\">a common goal that requires the cooperation of all group members to achieve,<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tequality of status between meeting people,\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tapproval of authorities and significant persons,\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tinformal, friendly atmosphere,\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\trepeated contacts with different representatives of a given group\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tsocial norms of equality.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Time:<\/strong> 60-90 min.\n<\/p>\n<h4>\n\t\u00a0<br>\n<\/h4>\n<h4>\n\tThe goal of this exercise<br>\n<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify\">\n\t\tTo make students aware of methods of fostering understanding between antagonized groups.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tTo make students familiar with the contact hypothesis, its requirements and potential to be used as a model for building dialogue between groups and individuals.\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tTo show students examples of the successful international educational initiatives on the ground of Polish-Jewish dialogue.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm\">\n\tInstruction for teacher<br>\n<\/h4>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDivide students into pairs or small groups (3-4 persons).<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Ask students to explore the following projects (links to websites below) and fill the table provided in the template.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<h4>\n\tMethodological note<br>\n<\/h4>\n<p>\n\tThe time allocated for the exercise may be adjusted by asking each group to work on one of the projects or by asking each group to explore and analyse all of them. Next ask students to hold a discussion within the group based on the questions provided in the Template and write down their conclusions.
