The learning outcome of this topic will include an understanding of what makes a good civic engagement project, as well as how to get started with creating and getting involved with their own digital civic engagement project.\r\n\t<\/h4>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"536\" height=\"668\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-210\" style=\"width: 200px;height: 249px;float: right\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/picture3_1.jpg\" title=\"picture3_1.jpg\" alt=\"SDCE3-1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/picture3_1.jpg 536w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/picture3_1-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">There are several identifier\/success factors which we can use to ensure our project will both be a success, but also give our communities the best chance of thriving.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">The following are concepts that will help to ensure that your SDCE project will be the best it can be.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>\r\n\t<strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Direct Service and Community Research<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Great SDCE projects will certainly include direct service and community research.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Direct service <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">is where personal time and dedication is given to the project to help address community needs.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Community research <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">entails exploring a community to learn about its assets and how it is affected by current social problems.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Using both of these concepts,\u00a0 you can ensure that what your project offers a \u2018fix\u2019 to a real civic issue, ensuring that people are backing your project.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>\r\n\t<strong>Advocacy and Education &amp; Capacity Building<\/strong>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Advocacy and education <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">is where your team educates the community about issues it might be facing. This can be funding for different projects, donating needed items or even participating in fund raising events.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Participation in association <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">occurs when you involved with different community projects and businesses. This gives you the necessary networks to ensure that your own SDCE project will become a success <\/span><span lang=\"EN-IE\" style=\"color:black\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>\r\n\t<strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Good Practice Example: Taking a Closer Look at the Starter Program<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">The Starter Program at the University of Tartu was an extracurricular activity for students which seeks to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and spirit in students.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">Financed by EU Social Fund, it was a three-month long idea-development program which involves a kick-off event, several training sessions and workshops, a networking event, mentoring sessions and a demo day.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">The programme seek to attract students who want to experience the process of coming up with an idea to launch a product or service.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span style=\"vertical-align:baseline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color:black\">The programme sought to attract students who want to experience the process of coming up with an idea to launch a product or service.
