{"id":63,"date":"2024-04-04T07:48:27","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T04:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/sdce\/module-1-3-en-2\/"},"modified":"2024-04-05T12:37:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T09:37:13","slug":"module-1-3-en-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/sdce\/module-1-3-en-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Topic 3: What Competences do Student Civic Engagers Develop?"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\r\n\t<h4 style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"531\" height=\"399\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-179\" style=\"width: 150px;height: 113px;float: right\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/sdce_clowd.png\" title=\"sdce_clowd.png\" alt=\"SDCE_clowd\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/sdce_clowd.png 531w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/sdce_clowd-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The learning objective of this topic is to learn about digital and entrepreneurial competencies that students can acquire during a digital civic engagement activity.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/h4>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Competence frameworks for digital civic engagement<\/span><\/b><\/span>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">There are two frameworks for identifying certain competencies that students can develop through<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">out participation i<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">n civic eng<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">agement projects.<\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">EntreComp<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"> is the <i>European Entrepreneurial Competence\u00a0Framework<\/i> and defines entrepreneurship as a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> transversal comp<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">et<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">ence, which applies to all spheres of life (from personal development to participation in society, to entering the job market, and to starting up ventures).<\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">DigComp<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\"> is the <\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\">European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> and is a tool to improve digital competencies of specific target groups in education and training initiatives. <\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Both competence frameworks are approved and used by the European Commission.<\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">EntreComp<\/span><\/b><\/span>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"838\" height=\"1043\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-188\" style=\"width: 400px;height: 498px;float: right\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/entrecomp_2.png\" title=\"entrecomp_2.png\" alt=\"EntreComp\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/entrecomp_2.png 838w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/entrecomp_2-241x300.png 241w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/entrecomp_2-823x1024.png 823w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/545\/entrecomp_2-768x956.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 838px) 100vw, 838px\">\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The EntreComp is made up by <\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">3 competence areas<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> and <\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">15 competences <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">as illustrated in the figure below:<\/span><\/span>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top: 0cm;margin-right: 0cm;margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <b>IDEAS &amp; OPPORTUNITIES<\/b>, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b>ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE THINKING<\/b>: Students understand that any idea of addressing a social problem through digital means should be underpinned by ethical principles and values related to gender, equality, fairness, social justice and environmental sustainability.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top: 0cm;margin-right: 0cm;margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <b>RESOURCES<\/b>, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b>SELF-AWARENESS &amp; SELF-EFFICACY<\/b>: Students who engage in civic activities through digital means learn how they can help bring about social change.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <b>INTO ACTION<\/b>, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">WORKING WITH OTHERS<\/span><\/b>: <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Digital civic engagement requires students to be in cooperation with others. This could include higher education teachers, peers, and organisations working together on activities on a community issue. Students learn how to build and maintain good working relationships and how to use digital tools that facilitate efficient work flow among team members.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\u00a0\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">DigComp<\/span><\/b><\/span>\r\n<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Students enhance their digital competencies by applying digital civic engagement activities. Thus, students develop their ability to effectively browse and search for data that is most appropriate for their needs.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <\/span><b><span><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Communication and collaboration<\/span><\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Engaging in citizenship through digital technologies<\/span><\/b>: <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Students build upon their civic competence, by being able to utilise digital technology that facilitates their ability to participate in society and voice opinions on important public matters.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <\/span><b><span><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Digital content creation<\/span><\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Developing content<\/span><\/b>: Students are able to <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">select and use appropriate digital tools that enable them to creatively develop civic content that expresses their ideas, opinions or helps to facilitate the delivery of a civic activity.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <\/span><b><span><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Safety<\/span><\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Protecting the environment<\/span><\/b>: Students discuss and share <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">an awareness of the impact of using digital technology with others and educate themselves on methods to sustainability use of technology that minimise the effects on the environment.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt\">\r\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the competence area <\/span><b><span><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Problem solving<\/span><\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">, digital civic engagement activities contribute in particular to the competence <b><span style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Identifying needs and technological responses<\/span><\/b>: <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Students are able to firstly assess the needs of a community and then select digital tools that help facilitate solving issues or problems within the community.<\/span><\/span>\r\n\t<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n<p
