\n\tMy name is Minna Lahti\u00a0and I\u2019ll be joining RENE Team\u00a0since my studies in\u00a0Master\u00a0School in\u00a0Turku University of Applied Sciences\u00a0(TUAS)\u00a0started few weeks ago.\u00a0I\u00a0have\u00a0worked\u00a014 years\u00a0as an occupational\u00a0physiotherapist in the\u00a0Turku\u00a0Center for\u00a0Occupational\u00a0Health\u00a0and\u00a0I have more than\u00a010\u00a0years of experience as a physiotherapist in various elderly care departments, such as the geriatric rehabilitation department.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n\tCurrently I work\u00a0as an occupational physiotherapist\u00a0with different\u00a0elderly care departments and\u00a0home care\u00a0in Turku area.\u00a0My work consists of evaluation of employees\u2019 functional capacities and work abilities, besides the guidance and health promotion work. Some of\u00a0my\u00a0clients I\u00a0meet have\u00a0already musculoskeletal disorders\u00a0and\u00a0I think\u00a0prevention interventions are in a great role. Teaching and guiding safe patient handling and mobility is central task in my work, and in that\u00a0field,\u00a0we truly have work to do! The risk assessment perspective, selecting the correct assistive aids and relevant assisting maneuvers are the important topics, just to mention few.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe safe patient handling and mobility have interested me quite a while and\u00a0I\u00a0see the benefits in individual and organizational levels. Having safe working habits, the risk of injuries will be diminished and utilizing the\u00a0patient\u2019s\u00a0full rehabilitation\u00a0potential\u00a0will support\u00a0their\u00a0independence. The nurses and other care workers need to be aware of patient\u2019s functional abilities, the risks, environmental\u00a0features\u00a0and they need to be skilled enough to perform safe patient transfers.\u00a0In larger perspective the safe working habits diminish incidence of\u00a0work-related\u00a0musculoskeletal disorders and\u00a0sick leaves.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThis RENE- project is aiming to unify the safe patient handling and mobility in all European countries. I think that is an important goal, since we know mastering the knowledge and skills in patient handling need to initiate\u00a0already\u00a0in their professional education. The novice care workers need to\u00a0have\u00a0the\u00a0right working habits from the beginning.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
