FLGR.01.162 English Literature from Baroque to Romanticism
Dear students,
Your course book consists of two files – English Literature from Baroque to Romanticism, parts I and II. Take it with you every time you come to the lecture in whatever form you prefer, as we are going to discuss the texts and materials pertaining to them in class. You will find that the course book contains large excerpts from Roy Strong’s excellent book The Spirit of Britain: A Narrative History of the Arts that will furnish material for your exam questions.
Andrew Sanders’s standard textbook The Short Oxford History of English Literature, will provide background material for the course and a number of exam questions are based on your reading two chapters from it, chapters 4 and 5 that you will find below.
Note. Only two exam questions out of four are based on these reading materials. The other two questions require the analysis of texts discussed in class, so the attendance of lectures and taking notes is strongly recommended. You will have to answer three questions out of the four to get a pass, so reading the text materials alone will not be sufficient. You will have to combine your own reading with what we do in class.
