HVLC.01.074 English Literature from the Middle Ages to Romanticism
Dear students,
Your course book consists of two files (Course book 1 and Course book 2). Take the pertinent course book with you to every lecture, in whatever form you prefer – printed or digital, as we are going to discuss the texts, and the material that pertains to these texts, .
The practical analysis of the texts in class will be augmented by your independent work at home. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 from Andrew Sanders’s The Short Oxford History of English Literature will be studied independently at home. For your work with the text book to be most fruitful, read the material carefully, select the information that is necessary for answering the revision questions in Course book 1, make notes for yourself and then master the material. Your will have no access to the text book material during the exam, so be prepared to rely only on your memory. The same applies to material from Roy Strong’s book The Spirit of Britain. A Narrative History of the Arts that is included in the course books. Your will discover as you work along that all this takes time, so start early and take it seriously. During the exam I want to see that you know the hard facts.
