Why is it important that pupils learn to make choices in school?

World is changing. While 20 years ago the first answer would have been that the choices pupils make in school affect their whole life – they choose the beginning of their career path, they lay ground to their future career which they will follow for the rest of their lives.

Also today, when we look at the labour market for example, it would be good if more pupils consciously chose to learn more math, to develop their problem solving skills and creativity, in order to continue in STEAM, and get a job in technology sector.

Nowadays however, it is maybe even more important to learn to make choices – to know one´s options, to be able to reconsider, to be flexible. To make choices also means to stand by them – to take responsibility for one´s learning.
