{"id":31,"date":"2024-04-04T06:26:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T03:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/neareu1\/home-0\/"},"modified":"2024-04-04T06:38:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T03:38:53","slug":"home-0","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/neareu1\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the page of the Jean Monnet Module NearEU"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n\tWelcome to the page of the Jean Monnet Module NearEU<br>\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n\tSince the introduction of the Copenhagen Criteria, <strong>enlargement<\/strong> has been framed as an inpartial\u00a0process based on conditionality and regulated by mutually agreed benchmarks, but its political connotation seems to be increasingly evident, affected equally by both domestic and European considerations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhile still formally distant in the EU jargon, this presents us with <strong>a new reality<\/strong> in which the actual dividing lines between partnership and candidacy are increasingly blurred. This is particularly relevant since, traditionally, deepening integration and widening it \u2013 by being able to integrate new members in the European family and projecting the normative power of Europeanization outside the EU \u2013 have been seen as the two respective, and mutually reinforcing, faces of the process of constructing European Unity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSuch reality justifies the necessity to comparatively assess the above-mentioned developments in the neighbourhood and candidate countries and the EU\u2019s respective strategies in terms of Europeanization.
