\n\tThe aim <\/strong>on this chapter is to encourage you to study or to do your internship abroad.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\tUpon completion of this topic, you will be able\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>to highlight the benefits of learning abroad for your future studies and career.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\tYour study abroad journey provides you with a range of experiences. You can learn much more about yourself \u2013 your own values and beliefs.\u00a0You can also make lifelong friends and open new career perspectives.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\tStudents who have been abroad\u00a0tend to highlight the following benefits:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tYou will expand your network of contacts<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tOne of the most common reasons to study abroad is contact with people from all over the world. Collaboration with students from other countries is part of the dynamic.\u00a0As a result, every interaction helps to build\u00a0a personal network of contacts with a global reach. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0You will acquire new essential skills<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe experience of getting used to a new culture and a life abroad can be overwhelming. Living in a new environment will not only test your problem-solving skills, but also improve your communication skills, self-confidence and your ability to adapt.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tYou will increase your employment opportunities<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tIt is no secret that an experience abroad is excellent for increasing the employability of a graduate. From getting a greater fluency in a given language and obtaining positive qualifications\u00a0to acquiring skills such as adaptability, efficient communication and intercultural understanding, the time you spend abroad\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>is an excellent opportunity to broaden your horizon.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\tDuring the MOBVET project, students form Tartu Vocational Education Centre were asked to complete a questionnaire about the benefits of mobility.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\tFor instance, one third of respondents highlighted developing\u00a0independence and courage:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u2019Being away from home for a long time and getting out of the comfort zone definitely develops independence and courage.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u2018For me personally, a new environment and an independent way of life was a challenge.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2019I became much more independent and now I am not afraid of jumping into the unknown.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n\t22% of students pointed out getting to know a new country and culture as a benefit :<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019I was able to see the world, travel to a place where I would not otherwise come.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019For me, it was a challenge to discover the peculiarities of a nationality.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019I met new people, experienced a new culture.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019I learned how to cope in a foreign country.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tAnother 12% of VET students highlighted the aspect of developing foreign language and professional skills:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018I got new acquaintances and also learned German.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2019One of the first experiences was that I could speak English very wel<\/span><\/span>l, although it wasn\u2019t\u00a0practiced<\/span><\/span> anywhere.\u2019<\/span><\/span> <\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019I was able to work for a multicultural company.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0 \u00a0 \u2019I saw new and different professional techniques and learned about the culture of work\u00a0there.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\tLastly, 6% of students stressed that the most important thing for them was to get to know better\u00a0themselves:<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0\u2018When I went to practice, I was in a new situation, alone.
