Photo by J\u00fcrgen \u00d6\u00f6vel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The PhD School aims to bring together a new generation of human mobility researchers, increase their capacity in working with and interpreting mobile big data sources and the state-of-the-art research methods,<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">enhance their skills in geospatial data literacy and geocomputation, and discuss the role of mobile big data in land use and transport planning and governance to promote resilient, just, and sustainable societies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The PhD School includes: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Four parallel <a href=\"https:\/\/mobiletartu.ut.ee\/workshops-and-academic-lecture\/\">hands-on workshops<\/a> for studying geocomputation in mobility research and data analysis approaches for various types of mobile (big) data to aid the understanding of our mobility systems, travel flows, accessibility, and respective socio-spatial context. The workshops are supervised by teams from four universities\u00a0(MIT, University of Liverpool, University of Leeds,\u00a0and\u00a0University\u00a0of Tartu), and each participant can indicate their preference upon registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic lecture by\u00a0Prof.\u00a0Andres\u00a0Sevtsuk\u00a0(City Form Lab, MIT).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oral or poster presentation of own research\u00a0on human mobility\u00a0research.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full\u00a0integration of the PhD School into\u00a0the main conference programme, giving\u00a0good\u00a0visibility to PhD researchers\u2019 work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interaction with members from the EIT Urban Mobility Doctoral Training Network, Estonian Doctoral School, and the participants of the main conference;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transport to the out-of-town location of the first PhD School day from Tallinn and Tartu and back to Tartu in the evening.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Catering throughout the programme, incl. coffee breaks, lunches, PhD School social event, conference opening, conference dinner, and informal closing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A rich social programme.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The PhD School\u00a0offers an excellent opportunity for doctoral researchers to learn from one another\u00a0and receive peer and professional feedback on their own research. The PhD School contributes to the development of international and interdisciplinary networks of\u00a0early-career\u00a0researchers interested in human mobility and mobile big data research.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key dates:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/mobiletartu2026\/call-for-papers\">Abstract submission<\/a> <\/strong>deadline:\u00a031\u00a0January\u00a02026 (closed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration is open for those PhD researchers who have received an abstract and PhD School participation acceptance letter from the organisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Early Bird registration\u00a0<\/strong>deadline:\u00a031 March\u00a02026. We expect that all PhD School participants register by that date for programme preparation purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sleeping Beauty\u00a0registration\u00a0<\/strong>deadline:\u00a025\u00a0May\u00a02026.\u202f\u00a0For exceptional cases only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practicalities:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Target group:<\/strong> Doctoral researchers (graduate students and postdocs are also welcome)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Venue:<\/strong>\u202fThe first day of workshops and lectures (7 June) will take place at <a href=\"https:\/\/jaaaeg.ee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">J\u00e4\u00e4aja Keskus<\/a> at Lake Saadj\u00e4rv (transport will be provided for all registered participants both from Tallinn and from Tartu). The remaining days (8\u201310 June) will be held in Tartu and are fully integrated into the main conference programme.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Abstract submission (closed): <\/strong>Those who wish to\u00a0participate in the PhD School are encouraged to submit an abstract to the conference, as it will be prioritised in the consideration for attendance in the PhD School due to the limited number of places. Abstract submission is mandatory for <strong>EIT Urban Mobility<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Doctoral Training Network<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>members<\/strong>. Based\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0abstract evaluation\u00a0process, PhD School participants may be assigned to either\u00a0poster or oral presentation\u00a0sessions of the main conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In the case of free spots, the acceptance of\u00a0other participants will be subject to the availability of\u00a0free\u00a0spots\u00a0in\u00a0the live queue during the registration phase.\u00a0Due to a large interest, no free spots are currently available.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Registration and participation fees: <\/strong>Participation in the PhD School is free of charge for the members of the EIT Urban Mobility Doctoral Training Network and the Estonian Doctoral School, considering they have received a PhD School participation acceptance letter from the organisers.
