He holds graduate qualifications in geography and cartography from the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology, including a habilitation.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:12pt;margin-bottom:12pt;text-align:justify\">\n\t<span>He served as Dean of Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation of Technische Universit\u00e4t Wien from 2008 to 2014. He served as president of the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/icaci.org\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>International Cartographic Association (ICA)<\/span><\/a><span> in the term 2011\u20132015 and is the current (2015\u20132019)<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/icaci.org\/georg-gartner\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>past president of ICA<\/span><\/a><span>. He has acted in several boards, including the Executive Board of the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oegg.at\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Austrian Geographic Society (\u00d6GG)<\/span><\/a><span>, as Vice-President of the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ovg.at\/index.php?id=893\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Austrian Society for Surveying and Geoinformation (OVG)<\/span><\/a><span>, as member of the Editorial Board of<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/loi\/ycaj20#.VtlgN_nhCM8\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>The Cartographic Journal<\/span><\/a><span>, the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/loi\/tica20\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>International Journal of Cartography<\/span><\/a><span> and<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartographische-nachrichten.de\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Kartographische Nachrichten<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:12pt;margin-bottom:12pt;text-align:justify\">\n\t<span>He is editor of the book series<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.springer.com\/series\/7418\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Lecture Notes on Geoinformation and Cartography<\/span><\/a><span> (Springer-Verlag) and Editor-in-Chief of the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/toc\/tlbs20\/current#.VtlgcfnhCM8\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Journal on Location-based Services<\/span><\/a><span> (Taylor &amp; Francis). He has founded the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lbsconference.org\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Conference Series on Location-based Services<\/span><\/a><span>. He holds a PhD in Physics and is an affiliate faculty at Joint Institute UC3M-Santander on Big Data at UC3M and the Joint Institute of Mathematical Sciences (Spain). Prof Moro has published extensively throughout his career (more than 60 articles) and has led many projects funded by government agencies and\/or private companies. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt;text-align: justify\">\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt;text-align: justify\">\n\t<span>Prof. Moro\u2019s\u00a0 work lies in the intersection of <\/span><span>big data<\/span><span> and <\/span><span>computational social science<\/span><span>, with special attention to human dynamics, collective intelligence, social networks and urban mobility in problems like viral marketing, natural disaster management, or economical segregation in cities. After studying at Lancaster University (BSc Geography), Leicester University (MSc GIS), and the University of Wales Swansea (PhD Geog<\/span><span>raphy), he took up a post in Queen\u2019s University Belfast in 1996, moving to Maynooth University in 1998. He is currently a principal investigator on the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/progcity.maynoothuniversity.ie\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Programmable C<\/span><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/progcity.maynoothuniversity.ie\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span>ity<\/span><\/a><span> p<\/span><span>roject (funded by the European Research Council) and the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dashboards.maynoothuniversity.ie\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Building City Dashboards<\/span><\/a><span> project (funded by Science Foundation Ireland; also see<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dublindashboard.ie\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Dublin Dashboard<\/span><\/a><span>). He was formerly a PI for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dri.ie\/\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span>Digital Repository of Ireland<\/span><\/a><span> (2009-2017) and the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maynoothuniversity.ie\/airo\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>All-Island Research Observatory<\/span><\/a><span> (2005-2017).<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt;text-align: justify\">\n\t<span>He has published widely across the social sciences, including 28 authored\/edited books and over 180 articles and book <\/span><span>chapters, and has delivered over 230 invited talks at conferences and universities. He is managing editor of the international journal,<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/home\/dhg\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Dialogues in Human Geography<\/span><\/a><span>, and has been an editor of<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/home\/phg\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Progre<\/span><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/home\/phg\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span>ss in Human Geography<\/span><\/a><span> and<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/loi\/rscg20\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>Social and Cultural Geography<\/span><\/a><span>, and was the editor-in-chief of the 12 volume,<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/referenceworks\/9780080449104\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span> <\/span><span>International Encyclopedia of Human Geography<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt;text-align: justify\">\n\t<span>He was the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maynoothuniversity.ie\/communications-marketing\/news\/taoiseach-presents-ria-gold-medal-professor-rob-kitchin\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span>2013 recipient of the Royal Irish Academy\u2019s Gold Medal for the Social Sciences<\/span><\/a><span> and recipient of the Maynooth University Research Achievement Award, 2018. He is also a guest professor (2017) at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), Austria, and an Adjunct Research Fellow (2016-2021) at the Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan. He was previously researcher and lecturer (Univ.Ass. Dr.techn.), and research assistant (Projektass) at TU Wien, and visiting scholar at the The University of California, Santa Barbara.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt;text-align: justify\">\n\t<span>Haosheng Huang is currently the Chair of the ICA Commission on Location-Based Services, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Location Based Services (Taylor &amp; Francis), Open Geospatial Data, Software and Standards (Springer), Journal of Geovisualization and Spatial Analysis (Springer), and Urban Planning (Cogitatio). He has been guest editor in several international journals, including IJGIS, IJGI, IJC, JLBS and IJDSN.
