For this, researchers use \u00a0morphological, biochemical, genetical, etc. methods. The group\u2019s main research focus is on \u00a0fungi and \u00a0lichens\u00a0, but to a lesser extent also \u00a0bacteria, \u00a0plants\u00a0 and \u00a0insects.  <br>The group are closely involved with \u00a0<em>Big Data.<\/em> They have been dealing with development of \u00a0digital data archives for over 15 years. In this time, the \u00a0workgroup \u00a0has produced the World\u2019s second largest repository of macine-readable scientific data.  \u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/plutof.ut.ee\/\">PlutoF<\/a><\/strong>. The Estonian\u00a0Biodiversity <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elurikkus.ee\/\">portal eElurikkus<\/a><\/strong> \u00a0 receives all of their data automatically from this repository. \u00a0They are also developing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/unite.ut.ee\/\">UNITE,<\/a><\/strong> a system for DNA based classification of fungal species, \u00a0 which is used both in science and private enterprices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taxonomy and biodiversity informatics workgroup at the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Tartu The workgroup studies \u00a0species, their dispersal and interspecies relations.
