Thijs Hemmer, Liena Loenen-Sarkis, and Janneke ter Marvelde are the teacher educators for this implementation in the upcoming academic year. In March, during the Maynooth Training week in Dublin they planned the implementation with the other partners.

Lesson Study is key in the research learning pathway of the teacher education programmes at Windesheim University. Third-year students intern to develop inquiry-based skills. They complete a Lesson Study cycle as part of workplace learning, integrated into the internship and curriculum, focusing on research competence. The module is worth 10 ECTS. Students develop research competence by addressing a question from educational practice. They identify a practical issue, analyze it collaboratively, and design a research lesson. The focus during implementation is on student learning. Through observation, students gather data on pupil behavior, engagement, and learning. Afterward, they reflect on outcomes and revise the lesson, drawing conclusions on effective teaching. This approach encourages critical reflection on teaching practice, supporting pedagogical decisions with observations.

Additionally, Lesson Study fosters collaboration among student teachers, school-based educators, and mentors. Students learn to design lessons collaboratively, provide feedback, and reflect on educational practices. They develop research competence and skills in collaboration, reflection, and evidence-informed practice. Thus, Lesson Study at Windesheim University supports professional development into reflective, inquiry-oriented teachers.

Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands is a partner in the LIFT project, which has now reached the phase where Lesson Study will be integrated into teacher education programs for both primary and secondary education.
