This could be a brief description of the course. When a blank Moodle course is created via SIS or by updating syllabus data, the brief description of content of the course in SIS is automatically added as course summary. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:7.5pt\">\n\t<span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span><span style=\"color:#565656\">To edit the course, select <i>Administration <\/i>and <i>Edit settings.<\/i> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course full name<\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span> \u2013 the official name of the course visible to all in the course list. It is derived automatically from the SIS. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Short name<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span> \u2013 a shortened version of the course name (usually course code) can be seen in the navigation bar of the browser. Short name is used to create a link between a specific e-course and the syllabus in SIS. It is derived automatically from the SIS. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"border-bottom:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-top:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-left:none;border-right:none;padding:4.0pt0cm5.0pt0cm\">\n<p style=\"border:none;margin-top:7.5pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:7.5pt;margin-left:0cm;padding:0cm\">\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:18.0pt\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span><span style=\"color:#a02b2b\">You cannot change the short name on your own. It is needed for the connection between the e-course and the syllabus in SIS. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course visibility<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span> \u2013 determines whether the course can be seen in the list of courses (it is a required for enrolment to the course and, for learners, also to enter the course). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course start date \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>the weekly course format will run from this date. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course end date<\/span><\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course ID number \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>an alphanumeric identifier of the course. It is generated automatically. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course summary \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>a description of the course that is visible to anyone who clicks the course name in the list of all courses (includes, for example, the topic, target group, goals, teacher, etc.). The description used in SIS is automatically added to e-courses created via SIS. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Files \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>an image of 185 x 112 pixels is used as a thumbnail for the course in the block of recently visited courses on Moodle dashboard.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Format <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>\u2013 Weekly format (course is organised week by week), Topics format (course is organised into topics), Collapsed topics (sections can be opened and closed, simultaneously one or more sections can be shown) and Flexible sections format (possible to create subsections, each section can be shown as open or closed). The chosen format may be changed later, if necessary. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Hidden blocks \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>hidden blocks are not shown at all or shown as small grey icons. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course layout \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>it is possible to split the course content over several pages by modules (i.e., by weeks or topics). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Force language \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>changes the course language according to the edited setting. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Number of announcements \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>the number of announcements displayed in the Latest announcements block. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Show gradebook to students \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>choose<i> <\/i>whether grades are displayed to the learner (<i>yes<\/i>) or not (<i>no<\/i>). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Show activity reports \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>choose whether the learner is shown their activity log file. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Course files \u2013 yes \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>there is a course file folder in the menu on the left; it is recommended you place all your course files in that folder. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Maximum upload size \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>the maximum size of a file that can be added to a course at a time (recommended up to 2 Mb; can be increased during the course, if necessary). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"border-bottom:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-top:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-left:none;border-right:none;padding:4.0pt0cm5.0pt0cm\">\n<p style=\"border:none;margin-top:7.5pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:7.5pt;margin-left:0cm;padding:0cm\">\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:18.0pt\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span><span style=\"color:#a02b2b\">If Moodle notifies you that the uploaded file is too large, you should increase the maximum uploaded file size in the course settings. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Completion tracking<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span> \u2013 yes \u2013 allows you to add the <i>Course completion <\/i>block to the course. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Group mode <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>affects the whole course: <i>No groups <\/i>\u00a0(learners are not divided into groups), <i>Separate groups <\/i>(learners cannot see the learners or activities of another group), <i>Visible groups<\/i> (learners of different groups can see each others\u2019 activities but cannot use the tools of other groups). If studies are conducted in groups and you want to view the gradebook by groups, set a non-forced group mode (any mode). In this case a dropdown menu appears in the gradebook, in which you can filter the learners by group. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"border-bottom:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-top:dotted#eeeeee2.25pt;border-left:none;border-right:none;padding:4.0pt0cm5.0pt0cm\">\n<p style=\"border:none;margin-top:7.5pt;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:7.5pt;margin-left:0cm;padding:0cm\">\n\t\t<span style=\"line-height:18.0pt\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span><span style=\"color:#a02b2b\">If you assign a non-forced group mode to the whole course, you can filter the course gradebook by groups. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Force group mode <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>affects all activities in the whole course. If the group mode is not forced, the group mode can be separately determined for activities. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Grouping \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>it is possible to form groups into larger groups inside a course (<i>Administration \u2013 Users \u2013 Groups \u2013 Groupings<\/i>) and set terms for using tools for those groupings. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Role renaming.<\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span> It is not necessary to rename roles in a course, because different names in different courses may cause confusion in learners. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\t<span style=\"color:#565656\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\"><span><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>Tags \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span>keywords that can be entered in the pages of the course, activities, and tools and that are displayed in the Tags block which is added to the course.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General course settings can be edited in the block on the left Administration \u2013 Edit settings.
