Photo: Sven Zacek<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travelling to Estonia by Plane<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The largest international airport in Estonia is located in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, with direct flights from many major European cities. Information on airlines, schedules, and customs is available on the website of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tallinn-airport.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport<\/a>. In March 2024,\u00a0<strong>direct flights between Helsinki and Tartu have been re-established<\/strong>\u00a0(for more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tartu.tallinn-airport.ee\/lennuinfo\/lennuplaan-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tartu Airport\u2019s website<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travelling to Estonia by Boat<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ferries link Tallinn with Stockholm and Helsinki. The main ferry operators are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tallinksilja.com\/en\/web\/int\/book-a-cruise\">Tallink\/Silja Line<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sales.vikingline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viking Line<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eckeroline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ecker\u00f6 Line<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The port of Helsinki, Finland, is 80 km from Tallinn, and the journey takes 2 to 2.5\u00a0hours by ferry. During the summer season (from May to September), ferries depart every few hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The port of Stockholm, Sweden, is 380 km from Tallinn, and there is a daily ferry (an overnight journey) in both directions. More information is available on the website of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ts.ee\/en\/\">Port of Tallinn<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travelling from Tallinn to Tartu<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tartu can be reached by bus or train. Buses leave directly from Tallinn airport or more frequently from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bussijaam.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Tallinn bus station<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/672\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57\" style=\"width:413px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/672\/image.png 780w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/672\/image-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/672\/image-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>From Tallinn airport to Tartu:<\/strong>\u00a0Buses from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/luxexpress.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lux Express Estonia AS<\/a>\u00a0bus company travelling from Tallinn to Tartu depart often between 7\u00a0AM and 11 PM. There is no need to print the ticket out. You can just show it from your phone. There is also no need to go to the Tallinn bus terminal because all buses stop at the airport. It is good to buy your ticket in advance because sometimes buses are full when\u00a0arriving at the airport. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/elron.ee\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">train stop \u201c\u00dclemiste jaam\u201d<\/a>\u00a0is also very near the airport.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>From Tallinn airport to Tallinn bus terminal and the city centre:<\/strong>\u00a0Tallinn bus terminal is situated quite close to the airport and is readily accessible by taxi or public transport. Tram No. 4 goes directly from the airport to the bus terminal and the city center. If you want to go to the bus terminal, then the right exit is \u201cAutobussijaam\u201d, and\u00a0the city center stop is called \u201cHobujaama\u201d or \u201cViru\u201d. The second option is bus No. 2, which connects the airport and harbor. A ticket on Tallinn public transport costs about 2 \u20ac if you buy it from the orange validator near the door (beep your contact-free bank card). There are many different\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tallinn.ee\/eng\/pilet\/How-to-buy-ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-tickets<\/a>\u00a0as well. You can also ask for information about public transport tickets in the R-kiosk inside the terminal.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From Tallinn harbor to the bus terminal:<\/strong>\u00a0It takes a little more time to get to the bus terminal from Tallinn harbor. Tram No. 2 (towards \u00dclemiste) or bus No. 2 takes you to the Tallinn bus terminal (the \u201cAutobussijaam\u201d stop) from the port. Alternatively, it can be easily reached by taxi. A ticket on Tallinn public transport costs about 2\u20ac if you buy it on the bus or tram.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>From Tallinn bus terminal to Tartu:<\/strong>\u00a0buses leave almost every 30 minutes from 7 AM\u00a0until 11 PM. Tickets cost 12-15\u20ac and can be purchased from a ticket office inside the bus station, from the bus driver, or on the\u00a0internet in advance. The trip to Tartu takes 2.5 hours. Buses are comfortable, and most of them provide free WiFi. Most Estonian bus lines and timetables can be found on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpilet.ee\/en\">www.tpilet.ee\/en<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>From Tallinn to Tartu by train.<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/elron.ee\/en\/\">Trains from Tallinn to Tartu<\/a>\u00a0operate about ten\u00a0times a day. Express trains take about 2 hours to reach Tartu and regular trains 2\u00a0hours 20 min. The train station (<a href=\"https:\/\/baltijaam.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Balti jaam<\/a>) is\u00a0just outside the Tallinn Old Town and near the harbor. It can be reached by taxi or tram No. 2 from the harbor (\u201cBalti jaam\u201d stop). Trains are comfortable, and you can use WiFi. Buying the ticket in advance is necessary only in first-class. You can buy the ticket also easily on the train. Tartu train station is located 1 km from the city center.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Private transfer by car.<\/strong>\u00a0In case you arrive at Tallinn late at night, you have the opportunity to order a private car (starting from the airport, harbor, or wherever in Tallinn) that drives you to your needed destination in Tartu. The service is provided by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tartaline.ee\/_eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tartaline<\/a>\u00a0and costs about 20\u20ac per person. If you wish to use this service, you can forward your request to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tartaline.ee\/car\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tartline via their\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0or contact organizers who will gladly help you.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Taxi services in Tartu<\/strong>. Please check on the Tartu city web site\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tartu.ee\/en\/taxis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">services phone numbers<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to spend the night in Tallinn, the closest hotel to the airport is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/ee\/ylemiste.et.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Tallinn by Mercure<\/a>\u00a0(former\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ulemiste.hotelltallinn.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00dclemiste Hotell<\/a>).\u00a0There are although many other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourism.tallinn.ee\/fpage\/travelplanning\/accommodation\/facilities\">hotels and hostels in Tallinn<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Estonia\u00a0can be reached by plane, train, car or ferry.
