INTERNATIONAL COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS CONFERENCE 10-14 July 2017 Tartu, Estonia
Seto culture and barge trip (FULLY BOOKED)
Price 46 EUR, duration 6-7h, 14 July
The trip takes us to the south-eastern corner of Estonia, the so called Setomaa, which is known for its well-preserved heritage culture. Seto leelo, a special way of singing has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
We visit the Seto Farm Museum where we can learn about Seto farm architecture, tools and handicraft, listen to leelo, and also taste traditional food in Tsäimaja (‘a tea house’).
From a nearby Värska port, the barge Jõmmu takes us to a one-hour sailing trip on Lake Peipus. Likewise, the barge trip takes you back in history – such barges were used for transporting goods on Lake Peipus and River Emajõgi from Hanseatic times up to 20th century.
And finally, before heading towards Tartu, we have some time to enjoy the Fishermen day and the lake festival in the Värska port.
